News:Silverlight for symbian avilable

Though Adobe has failed to bring out flash player 10.1 for symbian which brings desktop flash effects to your phone Microsoft has released its flash alternative silverlight to symbian phones.Silverlight is similar to flash and is a .net framework for the web.Silverlight supports videoplayers,animations etc which can spice up your internet experience on the mobile phone.
The silverlight supports only the s60 browser and opera mobile has no support for it.There are two working examples Bing application and HSN application.

I also got Seesmic Web working.Go to http://store.ovi.com/content/46120 to download Silverlight for symbian.All S60V5 devices are supported.

Any one who knows any webapps working please comment i would really like to know.

App Review:Divx player mobile 1.0 available for nokia symbian devices

Divx player is the offical player from Divx for nokia symbian devices.It has been updated to version 1.0 which adds support to nokia symbian touchscreecn devices including Nokia 5230,Nokia 5800,N97.
I had tried it on my Nokia 5230 but the results where very bad.Even a low bitrate avi(784) video couldn't be played at low bitrates while the realplayer could play mp4 files at a bitrate of 2000k.So i would strongly not recommend this app unless you want to watch a video without converting.
The application is poorly optimised for the touchscreen one example is that tapping on vidos listed will not play the video you have to click options and press play.If you want to try this software out just go to m.divx.com on your mobile

How to:Converting videos

Nokia 5230 with it's wonderful 3.2" screen is weel suited for watching a movie or short videos.Getting the correct codec,video resolution means a great difference in waching the movies or videos.So i decided to write a post about it.
Requirements


Video Converter


First of all you need a good software to convert the video.How about a free converter? Format Factory is a great free software with a lot of options.You can get it at http://www.formatoz.com/download.html.

Video or Movie

FormatFactory can handle almost any video format.Aditonally you can convert video to audio also. 

Nokia 5230 supports the following video codecs

• advanced video codec(avc)
• h.264 and h.263
• wmv9
• rm

Audio codecs include

• Good old mp3
• aac
• rma
• wma

So with some trial and error i found out the best configuration for nokia 5230.

Note:I used mpeg4(divx) instead of avc because nokia supports avc videos of resolution 240*320.

Also battery drains quicker and x264 encoding is not supported

Max video bitrate i have tried is 2000kb/s but 374 or 768 is recommended.
