Nokia’s Symbian is best choice for app developers

**

Developing applications have become easier and more worthwhile by using our mobile phones and this is especially true when using the Symbian platform from Nokia, the world’s number 1 mobile phone brand.

The Symbian software allows app developers to effortlessly knit different components together to develop more innovative applications. And they can upload completed apps to the Ovi Store, where millions of Nokia users can access their creations.

Here are 10 reasons why developing for Nokia Symbian smartphones is the best choice:

1. Versatility – Symbian is the only technology that supports devices from the high end, low end, QWERTY keyboard, touch, feature, and smartphones. This gives developers more options to create applications that will suit the lifestyle and preference of Nokia mobile users.

2. Ovi Store – It is Nokia’s personal media network where developers can sell completed applications made through their smartphone. Over 170 million Nokia users will get the chance to access these apps. This global store is available in 30 languages and gets about one billion downloads per year.

3. Ovi Growth – The Ovi Store gets an estimated 3.5 million downloads per day and this number has doubled in just 9 months.

4. Innovation– Symbian is constantly being developed and improved. Some 250 new features were introduced in Symbian^3 and will feature a split-screen text input, Swype, QWERTY keypad in portrait mode, and an all-new web browser by early 2011.

5. Modern – Nokia’s Symbian software has no binary break which means applications will be compatible with future devices for many years to come. And when MeeGo is made available, Qt apps will be easy to port over.

6. Symbian and Nokia are #1 – Nokia plans to ship over 50 million Symbian^3 devices to expand and reach out to potential customers. This endeavor is a result of having Symbian as the most-used smartphone platform in the world.

7. Languages – Developing for Symbian is easier because it does not use C++, instead it utilizes Qt, Qt Quick and HTML 5. A reduction of 70% code will give developers more time to improve their existing apps, or make new ones.

8. Opportunity – Nokia Symbian smartphones with its highly modern capabilities is a platform for all enthusiastic developers to create new applications. In North America, a competition called “Calling All Innovators” is giving away $10 million for developers to create new apps and games for Nokia N8.

9. Operator Billing – Ovi Store has operator billing (OB) for 99 operators in 29 markets. Note that credit card (CC) payment is available globally but when OB is available, purchases can increase by 12 times.

10. Success Cases – Real world examples certify that Symbian is the most popular and trusted platform today. Ninety-two developers have passed one million downloads on the Ovi Store. Off-screen Technologies have had 45 million downloads in over 200 countries. Digital Chocolate has more than four million games downloads. HeroCraft more than 10 million downloads.

With these reasons said, it is easier and more rewarding for programmers to develop for Nokia Symbian smartphones.

Nokia is Green - Promote Eco Friendly Mobile Devices

Nokia is pro-environment! Everyone should go green too!

**

Nokia leads among eco-friendly mobile devices

Nokia, the world’s number 1 mobile phone brand, takes another lead among mobile devices and services; this time by going ‘green’.
Nokia Eco Friendly Mobile Device
The brand has taken environmental thinking to the next level by providing products that feature innovations such as biopaints and recycled materials; and expansion of service and application offerings that improve lives for individuals, communities and our planet.

Nokia is making continuous improvements across its portfolio for positive environmental impact. In fact, in the span of 10 years the brand has reduced environmental impact on its mobile phones by up to 65%.

“We think every device should be made with the environment in mind because that makes a bigger difference for the environment and also gives greater variety of environmentally friendly phones for people to choose from. Our eco lead devices carry the widest selection of environmental features and introduce new innovations that are gradually implemented across portfolio.” said Benoit Nalin, General Manager of Nokia Philippines.
Nokia Eco Friendly Mobile Brand
One of the latest devices that Nokia has developed following the green route is the Nokia C7 smartphone, an eco lead device with a wide range of environmental features as well as new innovative materials that decrease environmental impact of the product throughout its lifecycle, including manufacturing, use and recycling.

The Nokia C7 is the first mobile device in the industry to use bio paints that are free of PVC, BFR (brominated flame retardants) and RFR (chlorinated and brominated compounds and antimony trioxide). It features OLED displays and power saving mode, and has high efficiency chargers with lowest stand-by power consumption. Plus, electronic user guides are available in the device, so it reduces the need for printed user manuals.

In addition, Nokia C7 is a feature-rich device, which can replace other gadgets, such as camera and music player. For the environment, it makes a big difference because instead of purchasing, using and charging multiple devices, you have an all-in-one device.

Aside from its eco lead devices, Nokia is also transparent in caring for the environment on its offered services and applications on Ovi Store (www.store.ovi.com). Apps that could contribute in saving the environment we share are available online.

The Battery Extender Lite (1.14.2) (Utilities) extends the standby time of your smartphone by up to 30%. Used by over 1.5 million people, it helps by fine tuning the settings on your device as your battery drains, thus maximizing your smartphone’s battery performance. The Lite version includes 2 of the 7 features of the Pro version, along with a 14 day trial of all the Pro features.

You can test your wits and learn more about climate change at the same time with Climate Mission’s ecologically themed puzzles. This exciting game will make you race with time as you take important tasks of recycling your garbage, planting trees in the savannah, helping farmers cool their fields and making friends with ants to keep the air fresh.

And be a part of saving and nurturing our environment with RecycleMe, a mobile tool designed to promote recycling in an unconventional way. With the help of Nokia’s evolving technology this tool encourages social awareness on easier and convenient ways to reduce, reuse and recycle waste materials.

Other Nokia smartphones that exhibit environment friendly edge are Nokia N8, E7, and C6-01. With these eco lead devices, services and apps from Nokia, mobile phones will change the environment for the better.

Love and Wait

Love and Wait
To me love is not a conquest, much less one conquest after another. Conquest denotes subjugation, a submission to a more powerful will. You do not make a person submit to your will and mold her as you see fit to make her more lovable in your eyes. You love her for what she is. You do not gloss over her imperfections, you learn to live with her flaws. You do not brag to your friends that she is yours for the taking, there's no place for 'braggadocio' in love. You wait instead anxiously for the next time she tells you she loves you, no matter if it may never happen and in the meantime the uncertainty is making you miserable. You do not lead her on with empty displays of affection. You do not boost her confidence using false praises, only to give her the ultimate put-down by taking her for a fool. You find your self speechless with admiration and fear that the slightest touch will betray the depth of your emotion. You do not cry foul when you see that the course of love has not gone according to your fervent wishes. You do not bawl at her, "how dare you tell me you love me, take my heart, and disappear from my life?" You do not demand the return of glorious days long past. You do not blame her for your shattered illusions and waylaid dreams and least of all your broken heart. Even in the lowest thoughts of self-pity and despair, you cannot bring yourself to cause her the slightest grief. You would rather die than give the slightest hint that she has anything to do with your unhappiness. Love bears all - maybe not always with a smile that's big enough for the world to see, BUT JUST ONE THAT'S BRAVE ENOUGH TO TELL HER IT'S OKAY...

You'll live so she doesn't have to feel bad. Love and rejection get in the same way.

LOVE IS NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED.

Love means different things to different people, different things at different times...

Like everything, love changes.

**quickmelt...

so when that person ceases to feel the same way, you can let it go...

-- I will wait for you to unlock the cage of your heart --

Would you?

Award Winning Pinoy Teacher Arriving in Cebu

Award-winning Pinoy teacher arriving to spread message of better education

Magsaysay awardee to speak before fellow Bosconians

A Filipino physics teacher who received the Ramon Magsaysay award last year for showing the way in innovative high school education is arriving in Cebu this weekend to spread his message of improving high school education.

Dr. Christopher Bernido will be speaking before fellow past pupils and alumni of Don Bosco schools during the alumni homecoming celebration at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) in Punta Princesa on January 23, 2011. Bernido is an alumni of Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong.

Bernido, along with his wife Maria Victoria, had turned a small high school in Jagna, Bohol, into a showcase for high school education especially in science and math in the country and abroad. Both received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Awards, the Asian equivalent to the Nobel Awards, last year.

Aside from inviting Dr. Bernido as guest speaker, homecoming organizers are also launching the “Blessed Alberto Marville Award” to honor outstanding work and achievements of past pupils and alumni of the Don Bosco Technical High School (DBTHS), now known as Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).

“Aside from our goal of improving secondary education, we want to inspire Bosconians who are now successful businessmen and professionals to help schools, churches, civic groups, and communities,” said Jonathan Vestil, chairman of the Don Bosco Cebu Alumni Inc. (DBCAI).

According to Vestil, the award is dedicated to Blessed Alberto Marville, a 28-year-old Bosconian who helped save people from being sent German concentration camps during World War 2 and became a leading civic leader in post-war Italy.

He was beatified on September 5, 2004 by Pope John Paul II.

“Marville’s life is an inspiration and worthy of emulation,” said Vestil who had been instrumental in the organization of this xyear’s homecoming.

During the homecoming, successful businesses owned and operated by Bosconians in Cebu will be displaying their products in an exhibit led by such establishments as Giardini del Sole, Southtrends, Bon Ace, and Lamesa ug Aparador.

Last year, Bosconians who are into business in Cebu had organized the Bosconian International Chamber of Commerce (BICC) which is part of an international network of past students of schools run by the Salesians of Don Bosco or SDB.

Formed by Saint John Bosco, the Salesians has since established schools in almost all countries in the world. The first Don Bosco school in Cebu was established during the 1950s at Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Setting Up a Lactation Station in The Workplace

A lactation station is one of the low-cost family-friendly facilities an employer can put up at the workplace for the benefits of employees. Anything a company can do to add benefits to an employee’s working life helps to attract people and retain people. Breastfeeding mothers who wish to continue breastfeeding their children after they resume their work have special needs. A lactation station provides safe and healthful working conditions for women workers taking into account their maternal functions, thus, promoting the constitutional provision of providing facilities and opportunities to enhance their potential in the service if the nation. A recently passed law, Republic Act 11028 or the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion act of 2009” which amended RA 7600 or the “Rooming-in and Breastfeeding Act of 1992,”adopts a national policy to encourage, protect and support the practice of breastfeeding. Specifically, this law requires establishments to set up lactation stations in the workplace and provide compensable time for breastfeeding and lactation periods.

Breastfeeding is nature’s way to nourish and protect young infants. The many benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to the child specifically in the first 6 months are irreplaceable. The positive effects for the working breastfeeding mother are equally rewarding.
