Dr. Christopher Bernido will be speaking before fellow past pupils and alumni of Don Bosco schools during the alumni homecoming celebration at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) in Punta Princesa on January 23, 2011. Bernido is an alumni of Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong.
Bernido, along with his wife Maria Victoria, had turned a small high school in Jagna, Bohol, into a showcase for high school education especially in science and math in the country and abroad. Both received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Awards, the Asian equivalent to the Nobel Awards, last year.
Aside from inviting Dr. Bernido as guest speaker, homecoming organizers are also launching the “Blessed Alberto Marville Award” to honor outstanding work and achievements of past pupils and alumni of the Don Bosco Technical High School (DBTHS), now known as Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).
“Aside from our goal of improving secondary education, we want to inspire Bosconians who are now successful businessmen and professionals to help schools, churches, civic groups, and communities,” said Jonathan Vestil, chairman of the Don Bosco Cebu Alumni Inc. (DBCAI).
According to Vestil, the award is dedicated to Blessed Alberto Marville, a 28-year-old Bosconian who helped save people from being sent German concentration camps during World War 2 and became a leading civic leader in post-war Italy.
He was beatified on September 5, 2004 by Pope John Paul II.
“Marville’s life is an inspiration and worthy of emulation,” said Vestil who had been instrumental in the organization of this xyear’s homecoming.
During the homecoming, successful businesses owned and operated by Bosconians in Cebu will be displaying their products in an exhibit led by such establishments as Giardini del Sole, Southtrends, Bon Ace, and Lamesa ug Aparador.
Last year, Bosconians who are into business in Cebu had organized the Bosconian International Chamber of Commerce (BICC) which is part of an international network of past students of schools run by the Salesians of Don Bosco or SDB.
Formed by Saint John Bosco, the Salesians has since established schools in almost all countries in the world. The first Don Bosco school in Cebu was established during the 1950s at Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

SM Funky Bowling Experience
It was last January 14, 2011 where SM Bowling Center in Cebu invited us to experience what SM Funky Bowling is like. It will be the very first Funky Bowling in SM City Cebu and we are humbly honored for having us during the SM Funky Bowling Launching in Cebu.I actually thought it was easy, but I bet even professional bowlers will have a hard time getting a strike. It was one of the best experiences I would definitely bookmark and reminisce.
Kudos to SM Bowling Center for making an innovation to everyone's bowling experience.
"It’s not just about getting a strike, it’s all about extreme fun and excitement!"

Setting Up a Lactation Station in The Workplace
A lactation station is one of the low-cost family-friendly facilities an employer can put up at the workplace for the benefits of employees. Anything a company can do to add benefits to an employee’s working life helps to attract people and retain people. Breastfeeding mothers who wish to continue breastfeeding their children after they resume their work have special needs. A lactation station provides safe and healthful working conditions for women workers taking into account their maternal functions, thus, promoting the constitutional provision of providing facilities and opportunities to enhance their potential in the service if the nation. A recently passed law, Republic Act 11028 or the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion act of 2009” which amended RA 7600 or the “Rooming-in and Breastfeeding Act of 1992,”adopts a national policy to encourage, protect and support the practice of breastfeeding. Specifically, this law requires establishments to set up lactation stations in the workplace and provide compensable time for breastfeeding and lactation periods.Breastfeeding is nature’s way to nourish and protect young infants. The many benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to the child specifically in the first 6 months are irreplaceable. The positive effects for the working breastfeeding mother are equally rewarding.

I was invited for an exhibit at SM City Cebu where it promotes awareness to Children's Violence. It was very heart melting to see these children seeing the world in a different perspective. Being able to see the world and be aware of what is going on around is an advantage for them to find ways on how to prevent such issues like violence.

Children always have this positive input in life. They have the power to see things in a good way. Even if they are poor, they smile. Even if they are hungry, they laugh. Because of this, 20 high school students were given the chance to experience a photography workshop that will definitely turn their world upside down. The Exhibit will last until December 5, 2010 outside the Old Spaghetti House at SM City Cebu. Please do visit the exhibit and see what these children see through their lens.
This event will never ever exist if it wasn't for Wayne Manuel who won the Global Map Maker Competition of Google. He won $50,000.00 and donated it to UNICEF and that's the reason why this awareness program existed.

1 December 2010 (Cebu City, Philippines) – UNICEF Philippines (UNICEF is on the ground in over 150 countries and territories to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. The world’s largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.) and Share A Child Movement unveiled today “Through A Child’s Lens: An Exhibition of a Children’s Photography Workshop in the Philippines” comprising over 40 photographs taken by Cebu City high school students to express their views on violence against children.

The exhibition is a result of a five-day photography workshop with 20 high school students, aged 12 to 16, from urban and upland public schools around Cebu City. The activity is part of Children Against Violence, a campaign that gives children an opportunity to express their views and opinions about violence. The Cebu workshop and exhibit was organized together with Share A Child Movement, SUPACA Youth Group (Sugbuanong Pundok Aron Sugpuon ang Child Abuse) supported by the Council for the Welfare of Children, Google and SM Supermalls.
UNICEF trainer and photographer Giacomo Pirozzi taught the participants the basics of digital camera photography and using the art of photography as a tool for self-expression. Many of them were inspired to continue the use of the camera as a tool for expressing their reality, especially in helping address the situation of children less fortunate than themselves. “The truth hurts,” says Jesse Arceo, 14, one of the participants. “My dream for the future is to be a woman who will show and shout to the world the reality that always hurts us.”
Photographer and trainer Giacomo Pirozzi has over twenty years experience documenting children’s lives for UNICEF around the world. He has been holding these workshops for children in many different situations from Gaza strip to South Africa. To effectively share these messages, Pirozzi believes the children must first produce beautiful photographs.
“It does not matter if they are in Africa or Latin America, children relate to other children, they want to hear their stories and they identify with them,” he says. “When it comes to ask children and what they want to photograph, they immediately want to talk about themselves, their world, and their reality.”
The exhibit comes on the heels of the study “Towards a Child-Friendly Education Environment” which put forth findings on violence against children in the public school settings and gives insight and evidence-based information to aid legislators, media practitioners and the public sector on the sensitive topic of violence against children (VAC).
“Violence against children can occur in different settings— in schools, at home, on the streets, in communities, places of work, and on the internet. The physical, emotional and psychological scars of violence can rob children of their basic human rights. Through this exhibit, we empower young people to raise awareness on issues that affect them especially violence” says UNICEF Deputy Representative Abdul Alim. “Today marks World Aids Day. In the Philippines, recent studies show more than four new cases of HIV infections every day, a third of them among young people ages 15-24 years old. Children have the right to information at the right time to enable them to lead happy, healthy lives” he added.
UNICEF works for the protection of children against violence, abuse and exploitation and supports the government in its efforts to strengthen mechanisms to curb violence against children in all its forms and pushes for the anti-corporal punishment bill’s passage into law.
The photo exhibit of children by children will be traveling to various locations in Cebu and Manila to advocate the passage of the Anti-Corporal Punishment bill.

“Even a simple picture can have a meaningful story,” says Judilyn Sagusoy, 16, a third year high school student from Pardo High School in Cebu City, whose photographs are part of “Through A Child’s Lens: An exhibition of a children’s photography workshop in the Philippines.” The exhibit is the result of a five-day workshop led by Italian photographer Giacomo Pirozzi, with 20 high school students from urban and upland public schools around Cebu City.

The activity is part of Children Against Violence UNICEF campaign that gives children an opportunity to express their views and opinions about violence. “When we started the workshop many children associate the need to possess a camera to the fun part of it. We need a camera for anniversaries, parties, to take photos of friends. We are in the Facebook Era and children love to share images,” says Pirozzi, who has twenty years experience documenting children’s lives for UNICEF around the world. “In the workshop, we say we do not want to use cameras like tourists, we want to think before we shoot, we want the image to carry a message.”
Pirozzi has been holding photography workshops for children in many different situations from Gaza strip to South Africa. To effectively share their messages, Pirozzi believes the children must first produce good photographs.
The photo exhibit is a result of the children’s field trips to areas in Cebu including Barangay Ermita, near the Carbon public market and the Inayawan dumpsite. The children also visited schools, to find out more about violence in schools—including bullying and corporal punishment –and to interview school personnel about creating a better environment for children.
Edmel Amance, 12, who wants to be an engineer someday, says his favorite photo was the one he took of three smiling children, happily oblivious to the fact that they were living in a dumpsite.
Pirozzi says the photos are impressive—proof of how visually talented Filipino children can be. Many of the participants were inspired to continue the use of the camera as a tool for expressing their reality, especially in helping address the situation of children less fortunate than themselves. “The truth hurts,” says Jesse Arceo, 14, another female participant. “My dream for the future… is to shout to the world the reality that always hurts us.”
Fel Labasano, 15, wants to be a pilot in the future, and was voted best photographer during the workshop. He says, “Now I really believe that photography can change the world.”
The exhibit comes on the heels of the study “Towards A Child-Friendly Education Environment” which put forth findings on violence against children in the public school settings and gives insight and information to aid legislators, media practitioners and the public sector on the sensitive topic of violence against children (VAC).

Children’s Photos Sends Message to End Violence

Manila, PHILIPPINES - SM Cinema, the largest local chain of movie theatres today announced the launch of its new website that will bring, online reservation and ticket purchasing to a revolutionary way of providing added convenience to its customers, across all of its cinemas nationwide.
The announcement comes just before the opening of the final Harry Potter movie.
With its new website, SM Cinema is the first to introduce mobile ticketing compatible to mobile phones from any manufacturer, Filipinos will be able to purchase tickets from the website and redeem the tickets at the cinemas using a mobile phone. This is made possible by using a simple text message which contains a code called "bCODE".
Unlike other payment and ticketing services that require picture messages (such as a 2D barcode), data plans, special chipsets (like NFC), or mobile-app downloads with expensive smartphone devices, the bCODE-powered service is compatible with all mobile phones and consumer demographics.
Through this partnership with SM Cinema, bCODE will provide a network of its innovative, interactive 3G-enabled scanning terminals across all SM Cinemas in the Philippines. The first phase will feature both mobile-payment on the website and mobile-ticketing services in the cinemas.
bCODE’s unique, globally patented technology uses point-of-sale scanning terminals to securely read and authenticate plain-text, SMS-based encrypted codes from the display screens of mobile handsets. This allows consumers to access a variety of loyalty, ticketing, and payment services from existing platforms.
Mobile commerce via plain-text SMS means that anyone with a mobile device can instantly benefit. BCODE’s technology is compatible with more than 2,000 mobile-phone models and more than 4 billion existing devices globally.
Leading IT-services provider e-Commerce Asia Ltd. (ECOM) with offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and the Philippines will integrate, implement, and support this redemption network, which will provide SM Cinemas with advanced mobile-commerce services such as payment, ticketing and loyalty marketing.
According to Michael Mak, founder and CEO of San Francisco-based bCODE: “The competitive landscape has permanently changed, and merchants earning the most customer loyalty will, in turn, become the most profitable. That’s why we designed our bCODE loyalty platform to help retailers reach, reward, and retain customers.”

SM Cinema
SM Cinema is proud to be the largest cinema exhibitor in the country today, currently operating 218 cinemas in 37 SM Malls nationwide! SM Cinema, which recently opened its newest branch in SM Novaliches last October 22, 2010 continues to expand with 2 more branches expected to open this year - San Pablo and Calamba, Laguna.
Leaders in the Digital Era
SM Digital Theaters - the FIRST TRUE digital cinema in the Philippines - opened its doors to the public on November 14, 2007 at The Block SM City North EDSA with Beowulf 3D as it's first movie shown. Since then, SM Digital Theater opened up opportunities for 3D cinema and featured some of the biggest 3D movies like Up, A Christmas Carol, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Shrek Forever After, Despicable Me, Megamind, giving moviegoers a fully-immersive experience.
SM Digital Theater shows it flexibility by also showing 2D Hollywood movies like Transformers 2, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, G.I. Joe, Wolfman and Inception. The noticeable difference is the unparalleled clarity of movies compared to movies shown in in regular 35 mm film.
SM Digital Theaters took a giant leap ahead of the digital pack when it became the first cinema to bring in the cutting-edge motion effect seat simulators last December 2009. SM Digital Theater is the only theater to offer seats which move with every action packed movie scene. With this new innovation, SM Digital Theater adds a whole new dimension to the cinematic experience.
Since it's first branch at The Block, SM City North EDSA, SM Digital Theater has rapidly grown with the birth of 25 more branches nationwide, SM Digital Theater continues to stamp its place as the leader in digital technology by bringing this cutting-edge cinematic experience to millions of Filipinos nationwide.
Experience the Difference. SM Digital Theater – The Leader in Digital Technology in the Country.
Firsts and Only
Once again SM Cinema paves the way for the ultimate cinematic experience. After opening the first ever IMAX Theatre in the Philippines at the SM Mall of Asia back in 2006, SM Cinema raised the bar with the country's first IMAX Digital Theatre at the SM City North EDSA last July 16, 2009. Now, SM Cinema strengthened its lead in the race for technological evolution with the first IMAX Digital Theatre in Cebu - reaching out to millions of Filipinos outside the Metro! IMAX Theatre SM Cebu opened with a bang last July 9, 2010 in time for the release of the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan movie, Inception! Only SM Cinema brings this breakthrough in cinematic experience to Filipinos nation wide.
IMAX Theatre SM City Cebu is uniquely equipped with IMAX's digital projection system which will surely deliver The IMAX ultimate movie experience to all its moviegoers.
IMAX Theatre's digital theater system uses a comprehensive suite of proprietary IMAX technologies, that, when integrated together, creates an experience that consistently puts the audience IN the movie.
This is the world's most advanced digital theatre system and is superior to all conventional digital systems, just as IMAX's film-based system is superior to conventional film-based systems.
Interactive Cinema
A first and only in the Philippines, Winema at SM Cinema is a groundbreaking innovation which turns the whole movie audience into human joysticks through interactive cinema gaming. The project launched last May 2010 in SM Megamall with Boink Out (an Arkanoid game) and Power Catcher (catching falling products). Due to insistent public demand, Winema was launched in SM North Edsa The Block Cinema 1 (September 8) and SM Mall of Asia Cinema 3 (September 9).
The elements of the game are fairly easy. With a motion sensitive camera, movie watchers will maneuver the character on screen left and right by waving their arms in the air according to the direction they want it to follow. Each game will run for 1:30 minutes so the movie audience need to accumulate as much points under the given time.
Aside from playing Winema for free, the movie audience that gets to beat the high score will receive a prize for each audience member. So as they say, focus!
To ensure the novelty of this breakthrough for loyal SM Cinema patrons, new games will be introduced regularly. Winema schedule: Fridays (6PM onwards), Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.

Just saw this Hate Page for LG's 50% Discount Promo and this is indeed one interesting one. It's a hit...big time! You can check it here.
Few friends were also their to grab the chance to actually have and buy their products for a 50% slash off. However, I guess, they were just not willing to give their products. If that's the case, they should have not made this event in the first place.
This was taken by Marco in SM Cebu.
...and they love to sell as many phones as possible with this kind of strategy...err!
From their headline, ONE DAY. ONE HOUR. ONE CHANCE, this is definitely a one BIG brouhaha!
